Fatih Sultan Mehmet Khan
Sultan II. Mehmed ascended the Ottoman throne as the seventh sultan. He ruled the Ottoman Empire between the years (1451-1481). He was born in Edirne. He has a versatile personality. His giftedness emerged at an early age. He took lessons from very good teachers. With his versatile education, he could read and write in Arabic, Persian, Greek and Slavic besides Turkish. He was a good poet. After his father left the throne, he took over the state administration for a short time, and he left the throne to his father due to the current events. After the death of his father in 1451, he took over the administration of the state again.
He was a good commander who always aimed to learn, had a good personality, was a strong statesman and a ruler very close to the West, with a very open mind compared to his time, with a wide culture. He had very close relations with the scientists, not only provided the development of science within the country, but also brought artists from the West and ensured the fusion of Eastern and Western civilizations.
His greatest wish was to take Istanbul, and by achieving this at a very young age, he provided the transition from the Middle Ages to the New Age. Customs and traditions, which continued until his own time, brought a new order to the state administration by establishing the rule of sultanate. He used every opportunity for the Ottoman Empire to become a world state.
It not only took the most important measures to ensure that the state was governed by a central administration and authority, but also ensured the continuity of the state with the laws it put into practice. He collected the laws before him under the name of "Kanunnâme-i Âli Osman".
He had a built and strong body. He resembled a lion with his round face. He was prudent and intelligent, frowning. His superior intelligence shone like sparks in his dark eyes. He had a ram nose, a tawny-pink face, a long chin, a pointed beard, and thin, gentle lips. His chest was flat, his neck was long and strong. He had strong muscles. His turban was like that of his grandfather, Çelebi Sultan Mehmed. This outfit also set an example for later Sultans.
