WHO IS YUNUS EMRE

Yunus Emre was born in 1238 in Sivrihisar town of Eskişehir. The time he was born was a time when order was broken in Anatolia, Mongol invasions threatened Turkish settlements, and many natural disasters such as famine and drought were experienced.

These events were reflected in Yunus Emre's perspective on life. There is no definite information about Yunus's literacy. He is the dervish of Taptuk Emre and spent part of his life with Hacı Bektashi Veli.

Yunus Emre has two great works; Divan and Risalet-un Nushiyye. He collected his poems in the Divan. Written in aruz and syllabic meter, this work is divided into different sections in seven copies. Risalet-ün Nushiyye, on the other hand, is a work that means the Book of Advice and was written in the form of masnavi. Written in 1307, the work was written in aruz prosody. Five known copies of the work that have survived to the present day

are available.

In his art life, he addressed the public with a clear language. He used Turkish very well. This has played a great role in the reading and understanding of Yunus Emre. Yunus Emre's poems are predominantly sufistic. Yunus Emre, who was the dervish of Taptuk Emre and spent part of his life with Hacı Bektaşi Veli, passed away in 1321.
